Description

Enoki mushrooms, also known as enokitake, are a type of edible mushroom characterized by their long, thin appearance, with small white or cream-colored caps. They are very popular in Asian cuisine, especially in Japanese, Chinese, and Korean cooking, where they are used in soups, salads, stir-fries, and stews due to their crunchy texture and mild, delicate flavor.

Native primarily to Japan and Korea, enoki mushrooms grow naturally on dead tree trunks, although they are now commercially cultivated in controlled conditions to achieve their characteristic long and clustered stem.

Regarding their nutritional properties, enoki mushrooms are low in calories and fat, but rich in dietary fiber, B-complex vitamins, antioxidants, and minerals such as potassium and iron. They are also attributed with benefits for the immune system and anti-inflammatory properties.

In the Spanish-speaking world, although they are more commonly known as hongos enoki, in some regions they may also be called setas enoki or simply enoki. These mushrooms add a special touch to dish preparation due to their unique texture and subtle flavor, making them ideal for integrating into healthy and nutritious recipes.
