Description
Broccoli floret refers to the small flowers or clusters that come from broccoli, a vegetable in the Brassicaceae family that also includes cauliflower, cabbage, and kale. These florets are the main edible part of broccoli and are commonly used in a wide variety of recipes, from stir-fries and stews to soups and salads.
Broccoli is native to the Mediterranean region, specifically Italy, where it has been cultivated since Roman times. Since then, it has expanded globally and is very popular in international cuisine, valued for its mild flavor and crunchy texture.
Regarding its properties, broccoli is rich in vitamins C and K, folic acid, and dietary fiber. It also contains antioxidant compounds like glucosinolates, which have been associated with health benefits, including reducing the risk of certain types of cancer and promoting a healthy immune system.
In Latin America, a broccoli floret may simply be known as "ramitos de brócoli" or in some places it is called "buqué de brócoli". However, the term broccoli is the most common and universally understood for this ingredient.
