Description
Vanilla seeds are small black particles extracted from the inside of the pods of the Vanilla planifolia, a tropical orchid native to Mexico and widely cultivated in regions such as Madagascar, Tahiti, and Indonesia. These seeds have an intense, sweet, and characteristic aroma that imparts an exquisite and unique flavor to a wide variety of culinary preparations, especially in desserts, creams, ice creams, and baked goods.
Vanilla seeds are valued both for their flavor and their natural flavoring properties. They contain compounds such as vanillin, which is responsible for their distinctive fragrance. Furthermore, although they are not used for their nutritional properties, they are a key ingredient for enhancing flavors and adding a gourmet touch to recipes.
In different Hispanic American countries, vanilla seeds may also be known as vanilla beans, natural vanilla extract (when diluted in liquid), or simply vanilla pod (when referring to the whole pod). It is common in cooking to use the seeds directly scraped from the pod to obtain a more authentic flavor compared to artificial extracts or essences.
