Description

Ground white pepper is an essential condiment in cooking, obtained from the mature seeds of the Piper nigrum plant fruit. The outer husk is removed to leave only the inner seed, which is then ground into a fine powder. Unlike black pepper, white pepper has a milder and less spicy flavor, with a slightly earthy and delicate aroma, making it ideal for dishes where a touch of spicy flavor is desired without altering the food's color.

This ingredient originates from tropical regions of Asia, especially in countries like India, Vietnam, and Indonesia, which are major producers and exporters of pepper. In gastronomy, ground white pepper is widely used in white sauces, creams, soups, fish, and other dishes where the visible presence of black pepper is not desired, but its spicy character is still sought.

Regarding its properties, white pepper provides a slight antioxidant effect and stimulates digestion. It contains piperine, a compound that can also improve the absorption of nutrients in the body.

Depending on the region in Latin America, ground white pepper may also be known as white pepper powder, fine white pepper, or simply ground pepper when the context is clear. In some countries, it is also called husked white pepper.
